A lot of folks don't realise how much failed military hardware (failed is actually not a good word to use, I know) ends up on the civilian counters. One of my buds used to work at the Property Disposal Office (aka, the Original Army/Navy Store) at Lakehurst. He could always tell when a shipment of prototypes arrived from the 'lectronic labs at Monmouth because nobody had a clue as to what they were or had been designed to do--even after reading the descriptions. And he wouldn't let me play with the Star Wars stuff, the bassett. Said they were still trying to figure out how to tell the Base Commander where the hole in Hangar No. 1 came from...

Engineer stuff would be cool I was going to suggest Experimental stuff myself. If you're refering to that little widget adjacent to the driver's hatch, I believe it's the driver's night vision system. Neat thing, it's thermal instead of light amplification. They ID the unit as 2-1 IN, but to the best of my recollection, it was the engineer variants that had the DNV mounted in that position, so it could see over the plow or rollers. Other variants had the DNV in front of the driver's hatch. Then again, they may have moved it on later production models to make it all the same.

Chuck, I don't know what the "barreled object" is, except I'm pretty sure it's not a weapon. Unless I'm mistaken (I'll defer to Stryker soldiers) the big vertical bit is a wire breaker.

What is the barrelled object in the lower right? A sight or a weapon? What's the big piece of steel standing vertical in front of the soldier?
