SNERK, Snerk, snerk! From Jeff at Alphecca, discussing an initiative to teach some gun safety in Ohio schools:

The Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence called a potential relationship between schools and guns "a little bit obscene." The group's executive director, Toby Hoover, labeled the effort a ploy by the gun lobby to indoctrinate children in its beliefs.

Meanwhile, local educators said they can't fathom mixing weaponry with the classroom.

"I really think it's something that's better left in the hands of parents," said Bob Scott, superintendent of Avon Lake schools. "Even couched as gun safety, it would be too divisive. I don't know if it's the school's position to get involved."

You can't make this stuff up. For the people who generally inhabit that side of the political spectrum... teaching sex isn't obscene, and it too important to be left up to the parents. Abortion is too important to be left up to the parents. Evolution or Intelligent Design? Too important to be left up to the parents. (and no, you don't know my positions on those things, either. Don't make assumptions!)

But gun safety... well know, you know, that's divisive (like the other issues aren't)... and well, *that* ought to be left up to the parents...

Just sayin'.

Speaking of Jeff - he just went over a million visitors! Wa-hoo!

And when the parents *do* teach the young 'uns handgun safety, there will be screams of "Child Endangerment!" from the loudspeakers atop the ivory towers...

John, your education has confused you. Divisive doesn't mean what you think it does.

Gun education is "divisive" because they disagree with it... unlike sex education in school, abortion for underage women, and evolution as the only theory of the origin of life--all which fit their "informed" world view and thus are not "divisive" at all.

See, very simple. ;)
