Given that certainly *some* of these are actually smugglers posing as Mexican authorities - one can imagine the International Outcry™ among the Usual Suspects™ if these incursions were going the other direction? If the Mexicans *want* us to put the military on the border, this is certainly a way to go about it. Actually I'm sure it's all part of a shadowy international anti-war activist/rogue government cartel to compel the US to return its forces to the US to secure our Southern Border. Hmmmmm. Now - do we have to look at that Canadian revitalization of their military thingy in...

And if we leave bags of pretzels and chips halfway between the border and the water towers, we're guaranteed the "customers" will show...

I'm for it. Although, my new work mates were all excited to hear about the new water towers with flags raised in the desert for would be infiltrators humanitarian needs, they were quiet when I added, "Yes, they won't die from dehydration and now we have specific spots to monitor. Excellent thinking."

                *Combat* action, lad, *combat* action!

Couldn't have been the *other* kind of action because he wasn't an artillerist until WWI started...

Yes, but *which kind* of action?

Just wondering out loud... [as the PG-17 recoils in horror]

Grandpa T rode with Black Jack as a horse sojer. He got smart after OCS when he read how poorly cavalry fared against machineguns in 1915 and branched artillery.

He always said that, aside from being gassed a couple of times, he preferred France over Mexico for action and climate...

Depends on whether it's truly a punitive expedition or establishing a buffer zone. As long as its the former, a single ACR would be more than enough - dashing in, breaking stuff, and dashing back out is the ideal cavalry mission.

Any of you military-history buffs have any recommendations on the Punitive Expedition and related events? I know of this one, but it's more of a Texas-focused book. Haven't read it yet - just on the wish list.

John, I made a very similar point, right down to the Pershing reference, a couple of weeks ago. I'm at work, and thus can't access anything *.blogspot, or I'd post the link.

The good news is, under the new Army BRAC plan, we'll soon have 1AD-that's FOUR heavy brigades-based at Ft Bliss, just our side of the Rio Grande.

Ya'll wanna play f*ck-f*ck games? We can play f*ck-f*ck games...

Right now the US economy would like the boost that it would get from building a wall from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf, and I would happily fix any dozer, dump, grader, or scraper that broke due to working on this wall.

11th ACR is close enough to get there. send the RS-2 scurrying down to the archives to pull out the old maps....

Cold Steel Troop might even get yet another mounted saber charge out of it!
