PBS - "...and the Navy has the easiest of all rank structures" If that's so, why does a Navy Captain get paid so much more than an Army, Air Force or Marine Captain? *Something* in the way the Navy designates people has confused the daylights out of the Finance Office... ...or could it be advance hazard pay for manning the conn all the way to the bottom?

Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5), actually, vs. Seaman (E-3). Sheesh, and the Navy has the easiest of all rank structures ;-) As for the Germans - they let him fly back to Lebanon even though the US had expressed a desire to prosecute? Niiiiiice. With friends like these...

It brought to mind the stories that were circulating in the press over a year ago that Iraqi WMDs were being transported in large numbers to Syria. The Iraq-Syrian border is difficult enough to seal now; at the time it was wide open. It would be an interesting development if 20 of the 1,000 tons of chemical weapons that the Blix report found unaccounted for in Iraq turned up in Jordan
