CAPT H. knows...

...and here is how you <a href="http://store.fortamerica.com/arousi14x14.html"target=_blank>make lemonade from a lemon.

The Armorer at Argghhh! also wishes it known that in his guise as the Forester of Argghhh and Chief Engineer of the Castle Argghhh Garden Railroad Company, he has <a href="http://gnome-home.edsberg.net/"target=_blank>reached out to New Zealand to help prevent Gnomelessness, (through the good offices of <a href="http://silentrunning.tv/?p=280"target=_blank>Murray of Silent Running who's shop it is) and will, upon the arrival of the fiddly bits, be able to report out on the repopulation of the region. Why is this important? Because some years ago, Castle Argghhh's demesne was burlged (outside, in the Bailey) and a Gargoyle purloined. This scared away the Gnomes and we wish to lure them back.

Now that the Leavenworth Police have put a crimp put in the Thief's activities, the time seems ripe for this.

We may also have to try out Murray's <a href="http://paper-models.edsberg.net/"target=_blank>paper models and trebuchet, and I wonder if I can talk <a href="http://www.thedonovan.com/beth/archives/004834.html"target=_blank>She Who Will Be Obeyed into that miniature Lorica Segmentata...

Dr. Funk was first to "show his work" so to speak, and prove he didn't just throw a dart at a map... not that I felt a *need* to stick this snark in here or anything... except for the shouting up there in the previous comment.... hehehehehehehe. ... and a Challenger 2

My guess is the soldier's picture is from c.2002, as he is wearing the CADPAT (TW) uniform with 84 Pattern webbing (we now have combat vests). The weapon is a C9 MINIMI with the ELCAN sight and a Blank Firing Adaptor attached.

Cheers

The oficial US ARMY logo, (which is a registered trade-mark) is being used by a private company. Since the US Gov't (and its agencies, including the Armed Services)is not supposed to promote any particular company; I doubt if permission was granted to use the logo...

Being a private company, they just pieced together "cool" images. I doubt if the person in their graphics department (or outsourced graphics company) would know an M-249 from an old BAR...

The SAW (M249) is actually a pretty common weapon, being based on the FN Minimi. Which, despite the cool name, has nothing to do with Austin Powers.

But as has been noted above, the Canadians and Aussies use it, with modifications. As do lots of other militaries.

The tank, though, is obviously not an M1. You wonder who does these things. AFN sometimes runs a short blurb about the US shipping buildup to the First Gulf War which uses a lot of stock footage, including a shot of a French oiler. Okay, yeah, the French were there too, but the point is, if you're talking about the US oepration, why are they pictured?

That's the Canadian version of the M249, which we call the C9A1 light machine gun. The optics package differentiates it from the Minimi in any other army's service. Which makes the nice young man a Canadian soldier. The hint in the post is that 'Capt H knows' as he well ought to, being himself a Canadian Army officer.

That is a SAW or a very very close copy of it (M249) but the side of the reciever looks like it has extra ribbing that shouldn't be there. I thought it might be german, but the grips, bipod, foregrip, and shape all indicate SAW.

Unform pattern looks like Flecktarn, German. Helmet is a PASGT lightweight NATO kevlar.

I have no idea who's tank that is. Canadian maybe? Odd flat glacis on the turret..

The soldier isn't a Marine... Wrong weapon, wrong uniform, and wrong helmet.

Not sure who he belongs to, but I'm inclined to guess at something decended from the former Warsaw Pact neck o' the woods...

You mean aside from the fact that the tank is a British Challenger or Challenger II? At least I think it is - it's not blocky enough to be a Leopard II. The sights aren't right for an Abrams, among other things. (either I'm right, or I've really embarassed myself).

The colors of the camo and the shape of the helmet don't look right either - I think it's a SAW he's carrying, but he's got airborne straps on the helmet.

Well, I am not sure what army that infantryman belongs to, but I am pretty sure it isn't the U.S. Army. Wrong helmet, and is that a belt fed HK assult rifle? Where can I get one of those?
