As promised...

...something for the soul. Especially if you're really soothed by things that go boom when they launch things that go boom...

If you look really, really closely at the barrel below the equilibrator housing, you can see where the *other* guy's boom gouged some chunks, back in the day.

Or, you can save your eyesight and just click here for the hi-res. Ummm, if you're on dialup, you'll have time to go brew a cuppa.

And I just *know* one of the grognards is gonna count the lands and grooves and then proudly announce that the paint job *wasn't* originally haze grey...

Hmmmmm? What's that? Nope, this one isn't the gun pr0n pic. I'm saving that one for later. Bear in mind what Captain JMH says: "Context is everything."

How did you get that in your driveway? ;)

Flutterby, li'l buddy - didn't you notice those big, horkin' *wheels*? And speaking of wheels, when do I get my ride in that bright red Desultmobile? Huh? Huh?

Well, early war german guns *were* grey... and seeing that it has the spoked wheels and the long (!) barrel, that's a M1916 210mm Lange Morser, though we'd classify it as a howitzer... Swap the wheels for steel disks with rubber rims, and the thing served into WWII. As for where it is, if yer referring to "haze grey" sitting in front of some Naval/Marine facility somewhere, though as far as *that* goes I haven't a clue.

Aha! I think I know where it is - but I'll send you my answer in email, to save the thread for others.

This one's haze grey rather than a true feldgrau 'cuz the haze hue is the only color they had on hand--and it's *chuckle* an alkyd aircraft primer. Sez "Battleship Grey" on the can, which'll give you some idea of how old their stock is.

Drat, I wuz wrong. And Bill's hint, now that I know where it really is - is even funnier! In that sad, way-the-military operates sorta way.

Bill - be sure to take the GA's with you if you get a ride from the Flutterby -- she gets tickets just sitting still!!!
