                Heard some guy on the radio today, saying the only way they would get him out of his home was in a box...and if they came with guns to take him out, they could expect to take fire.

Someday, when I&apos;m done moving at the Army&apos;s behest, I too might have heavy firepower in my collection.

&quot;Hangit...FIRE!&quot;

                And Boq - just as you don&apos;t know an unrestored M1917A1 tripod from a rangefinder, you don&apos;t know a primed 1x2 from duct tape.

Sheesh.

                Robert - the US Military doesn&apos;t have a &apos;stand&apos;. And unless they&apos;ve been Federalized, the Guardsman is &quot;State of Louisiana&quot; military... just to be technical.

The official policy in Iraq was to allow the Iraqis to keep their arms, while US civilians were forbidden to carry...

I can think of lots of reasons they are doing that... smart/dumb depending on where your thinking goes.

If you believe that disarming these people reduces the weapons available to the criminal element, or are concerned about armed insurrection, then this is a perfectly rational thing to do.

If you believe that disarming these people has no net effect on the weapons availability to the criminal element, but are concerned about pissed off citizens defending themselves and their homes - from criminals *or* the government, then this is a perfectly rational thing to do (though I would note that you are likely to increase the chances of resistance, once the word gets around).

I could go on and on, but, as one might guess, I find most of the premises invalid... and I suspect this isn&apos;t so much a National Guard thing (they are just executing lawful orders - you&apos;d be surprised what is lawful in a disaster) given by people who now have good reason to distrust the citizens&apos; goodwill towards local authority... and who are also thinking to the endgame when &quot;gee, here&apos;s a chance to gather up all these guns, never have to pay a dime, we&apos;ll win in any lawsuits, so it&apos;s a net plus anyway...&quot;

In other words, I disagree with the policy (especially if they are allowing the people to stay) but fully understand what kind of small-minded thinking leads to this path.

Where I live, I&apos;m just not likely to see a disaster of this magnitude hitting - absent perhaps, an eruption of the volcano that is Yellowstone National Park. But if something like what&apos;s happening in New Orleans were to happen here, I&apos;ve yet to decide *what* I would do with the collection.

One thing helps, though - my insurance *does* cover the loss, I checked that.

            <description>
                Nice hardware, makes me want to as a somewhat unrelated/related question. What do you folks think of the civilian disarmament going on in NOLA right now? Folks are being dragged out of their homes in zip-tie handcuffs, and then the dwelling is being emptied of weapons. What&apos;s odd is that these folks are then being allowed to stay in the upscale homes, without defensive arms. One NG soldier was on camera saying that he couldn&apos;t believe what he was being asked to do. He looked very uncomfortable. Just where does the US military stand regarding the constitution and citizens having arms in there homes after all?
