Simply, kewl. H/t, CAPT H. Update: As SGT Jeff points out, this story could also be a TINS that got out of hand over time... and sucker-punched the Guardian, too. I admit to scepticism when I first read it... but then saw where it was coming from and said... "Kewl". Geez. We can't fact-check *everything* the MSM does... even if we do fact-check each other out the wazoo! Even better, in a here and now sort of way - someone I know has sold their first novel! How kewl is that!...

No, just the ones you did.

Hmm. When Dad and I went through the safe deposit box after Mom died, we found several sets of what I think are Dutch East Indies Air Force pilots' wings. I think she kept them, like the photographs of their donors, to torture Dad when he got out of line.

(The exiled East-Indian Dutch Aviators trained in MS during WWII.)

Query, for the gals here: Is it too nasty to torture yer hubby with pix of the fighter pilots you could have had?

Mom made the right choice, IMHO. Fighter pilots tend to die at a young age, and had she been silly that way, I wouldn't exist.

Interesting. Nobody said "shot down", they said brought down, and the DC-3 is darn near indestructable. I'll put it in the wierd s**t happens catagory.

Heh. Some have suggested a Guardian hoax, too - in which case they're having a good howl over their bitters!

One thing's for sure - after today, there will be stuff in Google about Bert van Sloten!

SGT Jeff is right, if you go back to Tim Blair's place, the controversy rages.

A TINS that got out of control, perhaps.

If that's the case, they got the Guardian!

For a pilot, all things are possible; nay, even probable.

How do you shoot down a Do-17 with a C-47, and then manage it to come atop a platoon of tanks? Geez, everything must have been aligned just right for that to happen.

Oh - and Grolsch always has the same effect on me too.
