Take a moment, ponder the event and the impact it's had on our lives - 9/11 echoes in the response to Katrina.

Remember the Day...

and that while we fight...

We also build - and in some cases, fight so we *can* build.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, build playground equipment at a local school yard in northern Baghdad.

Sometimes, we build simply because we can, and someone needs the help.

Spc. Elizabeth Ferguson, from the 244th Engineer Battalion, 651st Area Support Group, helps to build a school in Los Higos, Panama, during a humanitarian mission.

Now, get back to the work at hand.

If you want to do something 9/11-related... from the left or the right, up or down on the issue... offer input on the Flight 93 Memorial plan, and/or the WTC Memorial.

Lastly, I'll listen to anybody who wants to talk about improving the structuring of response to disasters of this magnitude. What I won't do, however, is listen to such advice delivered sneeringly from some European lips when they wouldn't even take a break from vacation as tens of thousands died in the very slow-rolling disaster of their heat wave...

I appreciate you linking with my site, and I enjoyed your tribute on September 11th. It is so hard to believe it has been that long ago, it only feels like yesterday. Get rid of the governor of LA and the mayor of NO and their handwringing attitudes. Get rid of the corruption. Like Bush I said, he had no problem with Michael Dukakis' passion, but with where that passion would lead. Making the hard choices to protect people means that a lot of the burden falls on the individual after the state does its' part. I don't see how it could have happened any faster, or been any better given the people and attitudes already in place. Now that we have the benefit of hindsight, maybe some new laws on the local level to begin with. In Alaska, kids are required to wear coats, hats and mittens. Your car needs a device so it won't freeze...and on and on. In California, there were earthquake drills and regular updates on structural codes for builders. The Red Cross taught classes to church groups and schools on what to have in an emergency kit. In WA state, the same types of things were in place since St. Helen's blew and now that the volcano is active again. In Missouri it is the heat and the snow...and so forth. 9-11? I will never forget and will be grateful for those who protect me and mine.

Thanks for all that you and the rest of our proud military does, day in and day out. Nothing is taken for granted and the events of 9/11 will never be forgotten.

Thanks. It's a solemn day...to consider all that we have that many around the world only dream of...to preserve our way of life--THAT is why we fight. It is worth dying for. God Bless America.

As always, John, a sense of taste and a fine perspective. Good connections. 1/41 was in Erlangen when I was there. Not sure they are now. 1AD is where I spent most of my Army time, I like reading about those who've "come after," especially when it's positive stuff.... And in light of the past few decades, when so much could have been so much worse and so much could hardly have turned out better, I'd have to say that God has certainly blessed America. We must still be doing something right. -SangerM
