Hee! Love it!

Colonel Massengale, call your office - there's a message from a Mr. Baggins for you...

Extra credit if you have any idea what I mean.

Colonel Massengale? who is he? I love the movie "the Hallelujah Trail" but that wasn't Burt Lancaster's character's name. Lee Remick played Cora Massengale. Of course, a hobbit lives in a hole...and wants to hide in the Shire forever, right?

I do! I do! Heh ... My comment on his post is over 3 hours ago :-P

Mr. Bilbo Baggins... please report for duty at FOB Salerno.... *LOTR dweebs.. unite!*

Cricket -- Col Massengale is a fictional character ... the ultimate example of REMF / political creature from the book "Once an Eagle" by Anton Myrer.

Springbutt. Spoilsport. Make it easy, why doncha? Sheesh!

Now I have to spend the weekend reading the book. thanks a LOT. no menus for castle party threads until my literacy level in fictional military characters is brought up to speed. IOW, help!

Feh on that, woman. Do your homework on your own time. I got a Masters on my own time in 50 weeks. You can read a book, manage a family, and Feed the Hordes!

*tut tut* What I wanted was titles of books to read, kind sir. Or someone to read them to me as I Feed the Hordes. What with training the Moat Monster, checking the scruples for signs of moulting, and the bedoodlewhoopies cleaning the chandelier and the 'rita machine that Bill left over at the other blog, devising and serving menus... The Moat Monster can now attack non Denizens on command. He loves peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough. And what did ya get yer Master's in?

John is an MBA... Master of Bloviating hehe

Hmm. Haven't read the book, but from the description of the character, the Colonel's name seems to be a variation on Massingill: Maybe meaning he's some kind of bag?

Oh, living where I do, I kinda always understood the "RE" in "REMF" to stand for "Real Estate."

Lessee... the Moat Monster is Boquisucio's responsibility - the bedoodlewhoopies are Punctilious', Bill is Scrupl' Master, Were-Kitten is in charge of Chandeliers, and Barb and Neffi are in charge of 'Rita-matics! Stick to yer lane, gurl! Masters of Science in Criminal Justice Administration.

JTG - Read the book.

Sure... I skin my knuckles to the bone upgrading the Ronco 3000 RitaMatic to satisfy the ravenous thirst of the Castle Horde- and then Chief drags it off to some other blog! sheesh... now I gotta recalibrate the gyro-synchronizer and prolly clean the carb jets- and the filters! Ye Gods... scrup'l hairs and bedeedlewhooper feathers are bad enough, who knows what's in there now- not to mention that Lioness is torqued at me for some unknown reason (women!)... "You wanna complain?! Look at these shoes! Only had 'em for a week, and the heels are worn right through! And if you complain nothing happens; you might as well not bother. And when are we get a change of weather...?" heh extra credit to anyone who identifies the quote...

Dorothy, in the "Wizard of Oz: The Real Story". Cheers JMH

Massengill sort-a reminds me of Major Major Major Major. I'm sure you ALL know who that is, right? You know, when he's in he's out and when he's out he's in... :-) And I still say Bombadil should have been in the Movies (and Goldberry), so Merry would get that Arnorian long knife from the Barrow Downs where it was supposed to be got from (since it was designed to kill the minions of Angmar in the far past days when the watchtower of Amun Sul still stood), and THAT is why the stab to the back of the leg is so lethal for the Witch King! Galadrial never gave him that sword! And... Wha..? Oh yeah. ok. Well, small stuff does matter... Everything matters! And who says I have ADD!!!

Well, I DO stick to my lanes but well, we overlap on the chores here in Castle Land and I don't mind helping out. But I can't help it if the Moat Monster likes Denizen food instead of Bill's legs. Okay, so far, I have Catch-22. Any other must read titles so we can catch John's references?

If you're addressing him as 'Mister', does that mean Bilbo Baggins is a Warrant Officer?

Could be, Dave - or that it is what it is... he's a civilian. Cricket - Once an Eagle, Thin Red Line, Killer Angels, Goodbye To All That, and everything written by W.E.B. Griffen (start with Brotherhood of War series, then The Corps series, when your done with that, ocme back and well set ya some more.

OoooOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOH! Oh Mister D! I just bought Killer Angels two weeks ago. Must read about Gettysburg. Thanks for the titles.

Cricket - After you read The Killer Angels, you can pick up "Gods and Generals" and "The Last Full Measure", written by Jeff Shaara (Michael Shaara's son). These provide the complete perdio from the set up to the Civil War, through to reconstruction.
