Cannoneer Zen

How 'bout a nice transitional barbette-mount (see pintle in front) fortress gun on display at Oslo Castle? Black-powder breech-loader with a simple recoil system - an inclined ramp.

Hi-res, click here.

Cya! Off to the airport to see SWWBO in New Orleans for the weekend! Hopefully, Dusty and Bill will keep the shop open!

Okay, I've had enough of the artillery "zen" over at the "castle" - I feel like Crocodile Dundee ("You call that a knife?" ) Try this for a simple projectile... Read More

Otay, I am gonna show ignorance BIG TIME here, but when you say 'transitional', what are you talking about? And have a safe trip. We'll keep an eye on the Castle and the Other Fun Things that have been added... Heh.

Can I have that mounted on my deck? On a serious note, I am participating in a "blogburst" on the second amendment. I reposted a previous post from January concerning the subject. Since most of the folks here have probably not had an opportunity to view the archives and comment, I would like to invite you to my site to contribute your ideas on the 2nd amendment and gun control. Blogburst: Second Amendment thanks

Have a great trip John! We'll be sure to clean up after we're done trashing the place.... (And AFSis is thinking of mounting that cannon to the roof of the office. Intimidation factor, know what I mean?)

Taz - Transition from muzzle-loading black powder to breech-loading smokeless powder. This gun represents the breech-loading black powder phase, 1860-ish to 1890's.

AFSis - Don't you really just want to *remove* the problem? Phalanx!

Cricket - glad you asked... Saved me the trouble. John - hope you and Beth have a Great time in 'Nawlins :-)

Good luck with the antique piece, Cannoneer- and if she lets you buy something, I want pics! [scuttles to corner and deploys MK.II* Fem Delopement Shield]

Neffi, you're just asking for it tonight, aren't you?! ;)

..just like every night, darlin'- *wink*

Just imagining the torques and vectors on that thing, it seems like that member going from the trunnion to that eccentric-looking thingy is supposed to rotate about the latter, and only *then* do all of the moving parts slide up the ramps.

Figure you couldn't resist a line like that, Neffi... ;)

*More* Girl Cooties. Sigh.
