And I've been collecting pictures of re-enactors working their avocation. Sadly, I don't know who took the pictures - if you do, please lemme know. Nice shot of a gun crew working their Napoleon 12-pounder at an Antietam re-enactment. Hi-res version available here. I really like being able to get pictures with high resolution - because good photo editing software (and it doesn't have to be Photoshop-expensive, either - Paint Shop Pro works just fine) lets you zoom in and dig around. So you can produce things like this study of the crew. Of course - there is one thing...

Artillery crews at re-enactments usually consist of the guy who owns the artillery piece and those not able to afford a musket yet...

Well - they mighta been if they'd screwed it up from a re-enacting side... but for the real ones - that's why we're a mounted service!

...and the gunners know they aren't gonna be bayoneted into bloody rags by howling mobs of infuriated infantry if their own lines collapse- that helps, eh?

That picture reminds me of Jeff Shaara's books. I just finished reading "Gone for Soldiers", which I enjoyed greatly!

Hmmm. This, from a professional BUMF-Wallah? How long has it been since you smelled diesel fumes from the TC hatch?

Gunners are seldom appropriate, much less people!
And yes, a bad day has begun!

Cheers
