Gratuitous Bandwidth consumer.

When SWWBO saw the King Tiger yesterday, she burst out laughing... because she knew I wasn't kidding.

However, there *is* a toy I could probably talk her into.

A Schwimmwagen.

A nice little tidy amphibious package.

For those who might be confused. Kübelwagen.

Just to make sure: Schwimmwagen.

Kübelwagen

VW Thing.

Make sure you get it with the accessory kit: shower head, feldgrau privacy curtain and toiletries rack... =]

Been wanting one of these or a kubelwagen since I got into VW's. Had my chance for the Kubel several years ago but lacked the cash.

Stan - VW "Thing" (vintage late 70's) was a Kubelwagen ringer except for the cute little prop in the rear. A guy I worked with--who was more than halfway 'round the bend--had one, airbrushed it "Afrika Korps yellow" and was the hit of the re-enactor scene until he wrapped it around a utility pole. Haunt the junkyards. Lobby VW.

The following is posted as a pre-emptive measure to preclude indignant hordes of WWII buffs from descending with shouts of "AHA! The Kubelwagen was NOT an amphib!" Gratuitous disclaimer: Mister Chairman, I do not now, nor have I ever said, that ALL Kubelwagens had that cute little prop in the rear. SchwimmKubelwagen (Type 82) is the amphib...

I wish we were allowed umlauts. Schwimmkuebeln?

Justthisguy - Umlauts? You vant umlauts? Go to www.amphibiousvehicle.net/amphi/S_S.html (I don't want to steal John's job of creating actual links--he has to do something to occupy his time...aside from keeping Beth happy, deadtree and 'tronic research, creative writing, keeping Beth happy, blogsurfing, checking his e-mailbox every twenty minutes, keeping Beth happy, polishing brass, keeping Beth happy and thinking up [insert peals of laughter] hilarious new nicknames for yrs trly...grrrrrmmmpf) While you're there, check out the pic of Type 181; if I didn't know better, I'd swear sombody's salvaged Gary's VeeDub "Thing"...

Tregonsee: You are - you just need to know the ASCII code (available from the character map). alt0228=ä for example.

Rats. Just when I was gettin' the hang of COBOL, too...

*That* bus departed with Y2K, Bill.

Picky. I'm a slow learner, okay? Ooop--gotta dash, Defrag's hung up in the 286 again...

I love it! Great car.

Yup--just a pain waiting for it to finish ScanDisk before you can pop the clutch...(man, I gotta upgrade to one of those 30meg hard drives everybody's been raving about)...but mileage is great on the highway!
