        <![CDATA[Ah yes, one of the few stories in season for both Holloween and Christmas.  (Of course they are the same day, afterall, Oct 31=Dec 25.)

I have(had?) a hardcover copy of <u>The Shepard</u> that is illustrated with black and white sketches, which fit the mood of the story perfectly.

If you ever get the chance, also read <u>No Comebacks</u>, which is an anthology of shorts by Forsythe, each with a twist at the end.]]>

        Never seen the story as a stand-alone, but it&apos;s been anthologized--I remember reading it years (and years and...) ago, possibly in &quot;Phantom Regiments&quot;...time to go look again.

BTW, in my quick-ish search, I couldn&apos;t find the story itself, just the book (comes in audio tape, too).
