Yeeee Haaawwwww!

Ooof. Know what would be going through the pilot's mind in the boost phase of this little number?

Oh...
His eyeballs
His nose
His visor
His mask
...and anything on the glareshield not nailed down.

That muffled bang you hear when the scrammer lights is your a**hole slamming shut as you accelerate at a Mach a second. That is SO cool. Frickin' American engineers rock...

Maybe Jonah's volcano lancing procedure can be rendered moot by one of these babies fired at the lava dome...heh.

Hey dude - I'm sure you've been tracking the Corner - we have to get you scheduled in the Rail Cruise for the Laser Volcano Lancing seminar! I'll be the slide flipper.

Actually the X43 is unmanned. It would have been a lot more expensive to make a manned version (the unmanned X43 is only 12 feet long). Of course I'm sure ever test pilot in the US government was pissed off that they didn't. BTW, if it did have a pilot, you'd have to fight your way past me in line for the job. :-P here's a link to one of the X43's earlier flight:: http://www.nasa.gov/missions/research/x43_suc.html

Yeah, my old man was telling me its time to give up supporting the F16 for this speed demon. I suggested he try dropping a 500 pounder down an Iraqi chimney from that mach 10 speed... With email, bluetooth, and broad band connections do we really need to be able to fly from NY to Europe in 2 hours?

Yeah, guys I know it's unmanned...but think of the experience if it were (just for fun). You can't do much at Mach 10 in terms of fighting, but at least it would be intersting to experience. Of course, at the altitudes you have to do it, the sense of motion would, like in low earth orbit, not be as acute as it were if you were going 17,500 mph at 500' AGL. heh.

Not a word of tribute for the retiring NASA BUFF?

Yo, Dusty - a shy commenter emailed me and wanted to know if now that you posted twice in a row, you were off on crew rest...?

You forget I was with TF Hawk...the Apache guys had crew rest...as much as the USAF guys did. Does he REALLY want to go there? Heh. Short answer: not really; I just didn't have anything to say. My Muse is intermittent at best.

I find that the damn wench doesn't put in leave papers, she just doesn't come to work! And it wasn't Bill The Rotorhead, btw.
