Airborne Combat Engineer has a suggestion...

for Urban Warfare in a sensitive age. How to deal with a mortar near a very important religious shrine.

I say armed UAV with Hellfire. But I'm like that. I'd rather go Old Testament on 'em. Accurately, but, Hellfire and Brimstone are appealing.

Thanks for the link, John. Can you believe Allawi has now called for a cease fire and has offered to give amnesty to anyone in the Shrine, now that the US military has it surrounded? One article I read says al-Sadr has a very well organized "parallel government" with growing support. And al Sastani (sp?) is supporting him in calling for a march on the Shrine, which is now headed to Najaf. If the interim government wants to survive, it needs to capture or kill al-Sadr and put down his and all militias. Like somebody said, Democracy and militias don't mix. A bleeding heart liberal just last night asked me: "Do you realize Bush has killed nearly 1K Americans and 30K to 80K Iraqis?" Ignoring the exaggeration, I said he must really hate FDR, since he was responsible for the death of millions! I also pointed out that (with the exception of some collateral deaths), those Iraqis who have accepted the new government and are going about their lives in an orderly manner are at no risk. If he or I went out on the streets of America and shot at people in uniform or tried to blow up their vehicles and facilities; we'd get killed also, and for good reason. But, arguing with a liberal is like wrestling with a pig. ACE out.
