Wahabism Delenda Est! Wahabism must be destroyed. Wahabism doit être détruit! To answer a question posed by Sam in the comments to a previous post, Wahabism and the nihilism that comes with it are our enemy.... Read More

It's way too early for me to be pedantic about Latin (I've just received a copy of Wheelock's Latin, but have't yet read it) but wouldn't that be something more like "Wahabii Delenda Est?" Just more incentive for me to speed up my reading....

Hmmm. Could be. Dunno. It's been resonating as is, though. Ich spricht Deutsch, nicht Latin.

Pedantry is good for the Artillery soul; it ameliorates the transitive insousiance of hte visiting cavalry rep who pontificates while being soothed by his playlist of 75 marchpasts. Cheers JMH

What was that about pedantry again? Sic Scriptum Equesitis!

OK, I will admit... I broke out my dictionary. I thought I had a pretty good grasp on the English language, but am hereby feeling woefully inadequate. :)

Boudicca - what do you think it's like living with the man!!

Well there were a lot of latin roots being bandied about here today, don't feel too bad. Tankers like to toss around big words they find in the dictionary 'cuz they think it makes 'em sound smart. And they think if they call themselves "cavalry" no one will notice they're DATs. And that girls will swoon at their feet - when the only horses they ride are stinkin' diesel monsters. Ummmm. Diesel. Nothing says "Let's go shoot something" like diesel fumes on a crisp, cold, morning. Makes me want to be a Lieutenant again. Without the corresponding cut in pay, of course.

Russ - Nope, I'm not going to go with your formulation. Wahabii would refer to Wahabi muslims in an individual sense, and I've already rejected the premise of just 'kill 'em all', even though some commenters here and a lot elsewhere are subscribing to that premise. Now, if you find a better way to express Wahabism (the concept, idea, dogma) in a latinate fashion, I'll happily take that under consideration, though Wahabism Delenda Est is becoming a sort of mini-meme in it's own right. Dunno that it's going to have the reach and stamina of Godwin's Law or Retrosexual, but we can always hope!
