In the Spirit of Spirit of America

Perhaps some of my readers are members of service organizations, like Rotary, Lions, Optimists, Kiwanis, etc. Or any group of people who are into performing acts of public service and mercy.

My Rotary Club sponsors a school in Mosul. We raise money and buy supplies to keep it running and expand their ability to teach. This effort is funneled directly through a US Army unit that one of our member's son serves with, though we have established a process to continue the work after that unit cycles.

Here's another worthy project service organizations could use as an expansion of their work.

Go visit Frank at Cool Blue and check out what the Golden Dragons of the 1st Herd, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th (Tropic Lightning) Infantry Division are up to.

Thanks for the SOA suggestion. I didn't know they were not exclusively a Marine support organization. So I went ahead and e-mailed a request to them and gave them the email addresses of Maj Meyer and Capt Payne so they can contact them directly and see exactly what their current needs are. Thanks again. It's greatly appreciated.

Well that was quick. I got a response from Spirit of America saying they've been working on it for about a week and hope to get stuff there soon. Well that was easy...

Do we know what SoA is doing with the extra money they raised in the TV station campaign? Just curious. If they came up with a list of what is needed and went into a continuous fund raising mode it seems to me there are lots of people that will give as evidenced by the previous success. I know for my part it gives me the sense that I am participating in something that's important for our country - and supporting the troops in deed as well as word.

They are in a continuous fund-raising mode. That's why my button is still up and still works (and still credits the Fuslieers, too...) In the event, they actually raised all the money they needed for the TV station project as a result of the WSJ article. The money we raised went to the next projects in line, which were school and medical supplies - to include the stuff Frank talks about in his post.
