One wonders how this happened.

It looks like flat ground (though I'd like to see what's to the right of this critter) and I see nothing obvious to cause a total roll-over. Any of you tankers out there got ideas?

One wonders how this happened Argghhh! (I always have to look and see if that's two 'h's or three) has a picture that has to be seen to be believed. Go check it out. The explanation is in the comments.... Read More

Harvey is quite annoyed because the posts he's finding at Bonfire of the Vanities DON'T suck pond water. It's okay Harvey, I submitted my useless post from yesterday - so next week there will be at least one REALLY BAD Read More

from the looks of the conjoined tracks in the background, it appears to have been a mating ritual gone awry!

From the looks of it, they were hauling ass at near top speed when a tread broke. (Notice one tread lying on side of road, out flat.) Result: Tank turns instantly toward the broken-tread side, tread digs in, tank trips at 60 mph and performs one-half gainer. The telling mark would be on the far side of aforementioned tank, acrobatic, because the trip side would be the side away from us. However, notice that the sod is clean and pristine on this side, but open dirt in the background, secondary evidence it was headed straight toard us when it flipped. Must've been a helluva ride. Do I get a prize or something?

Remember your photo of the two Challengers getting too close for comfort? Compare and contrast ... Cheers JMH

Sheeeesh. If Charlie is right can you imagine that ride? 60mph and suddenly flip in a tank? I bet that hurt. Hope everyone got out ok. Er...how do they get out when its on its back like that anyway?

Ah, John - you've found me out. I've discovered to get any sort of conversation going on I've got to leave something out. If I just post it an explain it... well, it just gets lonely in here sometimes! Of course, while true in this event, I will in the future use it as an excuse when you just flat catch me out - that will, from now on, be characterized as a test of your abilities. Thus shall my faux honor be served, and my false pride preserved.

Next would be to check on the location: CFB Suffield? Cheers JMH

I have no idea where it is. It does look a little barren to be Salisbury. Do the brits maintain gear to train with in Canada?

"... a little barren to be Salisbury." There is supposed to one tree in the middle of the exercise area; I don't know if it still exists, but I know it was marked on the Base map as a significant terrain feature. The Brits (British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS)) provide facilities for live-fire training up to Battle Group level, possibly brigade. Training area available is about 1000 sqmi. Also, there is this. Cheers JMH

So, now I have another tank picture to show around. The last one got me a question about where I found the tank of the day joke list.

Fred - no worries. I'm sure there's more. John - lessee... if the germans still maintain a set of gear up there, and the brits do - and you could get us to do so (I know the proposals are floating around) the Canadian forces could add an Armored Division overnight almost, if it was possible to train the troops... though I wouldn't want to be Chief Logistician. You could get the Kuwaitis to help - their army is (or used to be, anyway) brigaded by the nationality of the equipment.

Ah, found your voice again, I see, John! And to think I helped a bit by tidying up the code for you! At least my site has had more visitors than theirs!

They popped a track at full speed. I hope everyone was strapped down per reg.

Drivers and gunners should be wearing harnesses, but the loader and commander cannot, unless the NHSA is the subject matter expert on tactical driving. Cheers JMH

Is that drouge chute chord going off to the left?

Good one Timmer: "... but the air drop from a Condor (An-124) was not a complete success." Cheers JMH

The 2nd tank in the background seems to be off its track as well... maybe they bumped into each other while at top speed? thus causing the tracks to come off causing the one to dig in an flip...
