Penalty for early rising I guess. I get to open the Castle Windows for some brisk winter morning air. Shame to waste good coffee on news that doesn't get the blood flowing, so lets start with something almost "gare-own-teed" to get the blood flowin and the brain working.

How about local news for flavor?

Illegals account for 44% of the Worst Drug Related crimes in Northwest Arkansas, screams the headline. The reaction?

Ever the soldier (He's a US Army Reserve Colonel), Rogers Mayor, Steve "The Colonel" Womack is pushing for a Hazleton style ordinance, as well as ICE Certification and Training for the entire Police Department.

But its a Federal Problem...right Mike? /sarcasm

I *was* going to blog the action San Francisco city government took in banning JROTC. But someone got there "firstest with the mostest" so I'll just carry water for Ken at It Comes In Pints and let him do the snarking. H/t, Cassandra.

Jules Crittenden weighs in on Pelosi-Murtha-Hoyer. H/t, shameless shilling by Jules. -the Armorer

For once, Murtha is the good news for the day.

And here's your humor: Bloggers and their cars. - FbL

While I appreciate Holly's work - I submit that vehicle is more suited to Noonan. Everybody knows my tastes run to this or this. Though I'm also partial to this and this. -the Armorer

Heh. Young pups today got no respect for their elders. Captain Baer, whom I glowingly posted below (and will again tomorrow) just sent me this:

A dribbling stream of Copenhagen on artillerymen. I'm an old paratrooper. Heavy artillery to me is a Ma Deuce and MK-19. Of course, when I had my mech company over here it was nice to have those 25mm Bushmasters. It would take an act of Congress to shoot indirect fire in Baghdad, now the 120mm on an Abrams is a different matter. Those guns will definitely rearrange someones badguy safehouse just the way I like it, brick by brick.

Punk.

And with the upcoming Congress, doubt we'll see any acts, either.-the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if (Don Surber uses it this way a lot) someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

As a lifelong Republican there aren't many things that Democrats do that I can applaud, but I must commend the House Democrats for rejecting John Murtha as their Majority Leader. Not only is Steny Hoyer a much better man, in every sense, but electing Murtha would have been a slap in the face of every man and woman who has ever worn the uniform.

His gutless "cut and run" stance alone makes him one of the rarest creatures on Earth, an EX-marine. He has broken faith with our band of brothers, and he has stabbed everyone in the service in the back with his defeatist rants.

So, to those brave Democrats who defied thier new autocratic Speaker, I say well done! Let's hope that this means that a sufficient number of Dems don't agree with nutty Left Coast Wing.

Well-said, Marine Six. I'm rather impressed with the Freshman Dems who apparently stared down Pelosi after she called them indvidiually to her office, asked for them to "please support my man Murtha," and then "casually" discussed their hoped-for committee assignments.

And it's nice to see that Pelosi has shot herself in the foot over this so soon out of the gate. Gives us hope that the more moderate wing of the Democrats may have at least a small amount of pull on the lefties.

FbL.... I'm thinkin' Holly's seen #82, judging by the car she assigned to Our Armorer.

Does this mean that Nancy's first project flopped?

Does that mean she is weak?

She sure knows how to pick her fights and lose.

This Scoreby's for you Nancy. Clean House gurl.

Now if I can just refrain from another double post!

Cassandra briefed on November 16, 2006 12:14 PM

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy... heh.

John of Argghhh! briefed on November 16, 2006 01:25 PM

Heh. I guess, since I got this via email, I better go check and see what Holly has done. If Cassandra likes it, it's bad...

Oh, wait - she meant Murtha!

John briefed on November 16, 2006 09:16 PM

whoa! where can I buy one of those zoom cars!?

arditi briefed on November 16, 2006 09:43 PM

I'm embarressed that Murtha WAS a Marine. Now he would be an interesting case study.

Holly briefed on November 17, 2006 10:19 AM

Well, I guess John was right, I attributed the wrong vehicle to him. (Must have been confusing the two Johns :D) I've rectified the mistake and given John a vehicle more to his tastes (with a matching vehicle for his wife).

Oh - and you'll have to read the end of the post to find out where I got these cool cars...lol.
