In re my Armageddon post below, Thomas Sowell's Wheaties aren't sitting too well with him this morning.

The Australian destroyer *not* sunk by Hezbollah...

Seza Geoff, one of our Aussie regulars, points out that the Australian destroyer sunk by an Australian submarine some years ago is back in the news... wearing new colors, and being sunk by... Hezbollah. Really. While I'm sure that most visitors to the website in question will just cheer and be happy - the more thoughtful ones will note that it's a pretty deserted and unarmed ship they wasted the missile on... oh who am I kidding. I left a comment (well, rather, President Bush did) but I somehow don't think it's going to stay up long...

Lastly, this is either the Phalanx CIWS on the USS Saipan being test-fired, or it's R2D2's Great-Great-Grandaddy suffering from premature, er, ahm, firing. I dunno. I post, you decide. -the Armorer

Wow.... I am in awe of Specialist Crystal Davis. You have GOT to read this story. ~AFSis

Heh. The Wheels of Navy Justice grind slowly, if this is, in fact, a just outcome (I admit I'm not qualified to judge).

WASHINGTON - Nearly six years after the deadly terrorist attack on the USS Cole, the Navy has decided that the officer who was skipper of the ship is not qualified for a promotion that had been in limbo since 2002.

SWWBO points us to this thought/discussion-provoking essay: "A hypothesis on why men's lives are more difficult nowadays." My own thoughts here. - FbL

And the Brown Shirts win a round.
Grrrr. Make threats of violence against a man and his family to make him adopt your policy isn't terrorism? Placing Molotov cocktails on people's doorsteps is somehow attacking a valid military target?

This pisses me off.

This is why each and every individual needs to be able to catch and subdue, maybe even kill with extreme prejudice, these anarchist sheetheads. This is why we need the castle doctrine and other legal protections for whacking scumbags who attack you at home.

There's little in this world I'm personally willing to kill over, but this is one of them. Come after me and mine ALF/ELF and you'll reap the whirlwhind, scumbags. Seeing you dead makes the thought of prison tolerable.

I'm a whole other person when pissed off. Don't knock on the doors of Hell becuase I may just answer and decide I want to Party too.

Don't fart with me. Don't even think about messing with my family. Don't fart with scientists I know. Don't mess with colleges or companies I'm even remotely connected to. You don't want me angry at you and coming after you, you stupid sheets.

I can't believe you all let John slide on the date today. Such generous souls around here not to snark the proprietor. Fixed it. Can I have a day off from polishing the Portculis, please? I need to do some home defense shopping (grins demonically).

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. It's also an open trackback, so if (Don Surber uses it this way a lot) someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".
