H&I* Fires 9 Aug 2006

Open post for those with something to share, updated through the day. New, complete posts come in below this one. Note: If trackbacking, please acknowledge this post in your post. That's only polite. You're advertising here, we should get an ad at your place...

I have a Labrador retriever & I was buying a large bag of Purina at Wal-Mart and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog(?). On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall, black guy who was behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned. I told her no; I'd been sitting in the street licking my butt and a car hit me. I thought the black guy was going to have to have help as he laughingly staggered to the door.

That sounds like something I would do in a checkout line to an Oblivion. H/t, Rich B.

Moving on - NetBrad has been doing some more scouting:

Want a C-119 or C-130?

Click on August 23/24 , the brochure is 5 megs. Maybe the Beauchamp guys could use it for training. There's also a "container sale" on the 17th if you're running out of space at the Castle.

I'd certainly like to have that Invader! -the Armorer

Speaking of airplanes... a contributor who wishes to remain anonymous sends these...

Heh. The MSM can't catch a break. More staged/doctored photos. Gateway Pundit in the attack.

More Piling On - this time at Zombietime. Note to MSM - I'm available for a military photo-interp consultancy. For a fee, of course. H/t to Jim C for the second link. -the Armorer

Update: Ace of Spades Piles On. Heh. That's almost redundant... It does indicate the level of problem the MSM has keeping track of all this. Like I said - I'm available as a photo-screener. For a fee. -the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. It's also an open trackback, so if (Don Surber uses it this way a lot) someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".
