Trying in vain to fill in for Kat as she recovers from Entropy Attacking Her Computer.
(Gollum got in the gears. Had to fix the post after blogger tore it to shreds. I altered the html as well since I had to delete and repost for it to eventually work properly. Sorry Trias, your comment got splashed as well. You might want to look at it again though. Ed: 10:10pm est 10.7.2006) -ry

Talk about awaking a sleeping tiger...

Japan was badly rattled by North Korea's missile tests last week and several government officials openly discussed whether the country ought to take steps to better defend itself, including setting up the legal framework to allow Tokyo to launch a pre-emptive strike against Northern missile sites.

Read the rest here.

Then head over to read Russ Vaughn's piece "Take Them There" at the little house out back where the Old War Dogs live. (in some cases, it's looking like a staging area for Fiddler's Green...) -the Armorer

In case you missed it, SGT CSM Hook is blogging again after surviving the adventures of a PCS - FbL

Remember the Professor who determined that Chickenwire, kerosene and a brick were definitive proof of the Non-Existence of Airplanes hitting the second tower - and that the collapse of the towers (based on his experiment) was obviously a BushCo-engineered event? Heh. Seems this experiement was supposed to be an *improvement* on others... Instapinch does the research, so you don't have to.

Update (especially for Sanger) Frisch was the Real Deal. Jeff argues some details from the Inside Higher Ed piece here - when he's not fighting off the 3rd DOS attack in a week... -the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. It's also an open trackback, so if (Don Surber uses it this way a lot) someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".
