Another link fest!

First though - Happy Birthday:

1806 Stand Watie, a Cherokee, and Brigadier General, C.S.A., d. 1871. How many of you knew the Confederates raised a brigade of Native Americans? And, while I'm not doing a Confederacy=Nazi Germany comparison here, has anyone noticed how both of them ended up raising troops from populations that they didn't consider of equal status? Of course, in the case of the Nazi's it was even more bizarre, as it was the SS raising the divisions of non-Aryan troops.

1913 Jesse Owens, Speaking of the Nazis - all hail Jesse, who spoiled Hitler's Olympics.

Jack at Random Fate offers up this and this for why you should skip a six-pack this week and give that money to Spirit of America!

$5300 raised to date - but we're falling behind... A big Thank You to those who have already given!

Okay, on to the link-fest!

Michelle Malkin takes a look at some of her favorite bits of the Intel Reform Bill. Michelle also makes clear her taste in cartoons.

Say Uncle, channeling Freedom Sight, points us to a story of journalistic scare-mongering in the Castle's back yard. (Tonganoxie is a stone's throw from the Castle). The denizens of the Castle missed it, being unable to stomach what passes for local TV news in the first place. We should note, however, that the Leavenworth Times could learn much from the Tonganoxie Mirror in terms of web presence! Not that many of you care!

A story I'd missed because life keeps intruding: The "kidnapped" Marine... wasn't.

Goemagog, at INCITE, picks apart Bill Moyers.

Banagor wonders - where's his check? We at the Castle echo his thoughts...

The Queen of All Evil is perplexed. Apparently some people want to have their cake and eat it, too.

Blaster has a simply excellent round-up post. Texas is putting in Wi-Fi at highway rest stops? Oh, and since I really kind of owe Jack at Random Fate an answer to this question, I guess I'll do that now. One reason I haven't answered, Jack, is because my answer is really pretty heartless in some respects. But Blaster says pretty much the same thing I've been thinking. So, now we're at least an Army of Two.

Rumsfeld. Armor. Please. We fought all of Gulf War I without armored HMMWV's. Armor is good, we keep adding it. But it's like Homeland Security, we can't just defend our way out of this. We need to defeat the "insurgents." Then you can ride in a taxi and things will be okay.

Yes, this war is different from the Gulf War at this point, and yes, in some aspects the adaptation has been slow. But everything can't be a #1 priority, choices will be made. So will mistakes.

At The Scurvy Wench Bildo waxes political - and OrfinAnnie offers home decorating ideas.

CDR Salamander (who if he didn't have his own blog we might try to snag as a Naval Voice for the Castle) listens to the Left, and finds a tin ear.

Over at Physics Geek - It Came Upon A Server Clear.

I'm going to close this one out with a suggestion to go to DANEgerus and start at the top and move down.

Blackfive, showing why he's winning the Best Milblog Category at the Weblog awards, details about some people he met while at the Global Voices Online conference.

Over at BlameBush - the TRUTH truth behind the HMMWV armor controversy.

Well, that's it. More life intrusion!

Went looking for the "TRUTH behind the HMMMV armo(u)r controversy", but BlackFive had nothing to say about it ...

Not to be a troll, but why not compare the Confederacy to the Nazis? Both governments were willing to kill hundreds of thousands of people (or more) in order to preserve their crackpot theories on racial superiority. Both wanted to destroy the United States of America. Both governments rounded up prisoners into camps and then deprived them of food. The Confederates just couldn't operate on the same scale.

Oh, and the USA kicked both their asses.

John of Argghhh! briefed on December 13, 2004 06:30 AM

Well, Dan, you aren't being a troll, though you may start a flame war...

I'll let others defend Southern honor. Perhaps the shade of Gen'l Jackson will return. That should prove entertaining.
