A message for Hugh Hewitt...

OK, that's it...I'm joining with Castle Argghhh! (he's inviting me) to come up on the public net after reading your post about the Marine and his '71 graduation...

As a USAFA (Air Force Academy) Cadet in '72, we were told not to travel in groups of less than fifty (as in 5-0) if we planned to attend the USAFA/CU football game that year. As doolies (freshmen), we were screwed-the regs said 4th classmen had to wear their uniforms while off base until after Christmas (if I remember that right...I know it was a good portion of the academic year)-so I just didn't go. No sense in getting the crap kicked out of me in an unfair fight.

All this was after getting some grief from high school classmates for going to the Academy in the first place...and one teacher who was bewildered at my choice after getting SATs high enough for MIT. Heh. Silly me.

Remember...Airpower Guys have a special place in our hearts for the war protesters. Guys my age were raised by the Hanoi Hilton vets, not to mention the ones who were never shot down and watching tapes of Kerry's trashing both us and them didn't, well, sit very well with most. The former were tortured unmercifully as you know...a humiliation and abuse made more painful by the statements and actions of people like John Kerry. The former POW I knew best was once beaten so badly he woke up and thought he'd been paralyzed... couldn't move his head. Fortunately, all that had happened was the blood that had flowed from every natural orifice above his neck-mouth, nose, eyes and ears-had coagulated, sticking his cranium to the floor of his cell. I can just imagine him watching the campaign today. If I were him, I probably couldn't.

Now the Democrat machine wants to BAN THE O'NEILL BOOK! Wah?!? These people used to just make me they're starting to really scare me.

As you say when passing canopy to canopy in a one-on-one set-up...Fight's On...

I can barely stand it when Kerry starts spouting - I can not begin to imagine how the former POW's feel. I wish I could find each of them, give them a hug and buy them a drink. Not nearly enough of a thank you for everything they've gone through.

Dusty - the hell you say! USAFA smack in '72? Must be Class of '76, then. What squadron were you in? I was in Ali Baba 40 first year, then went to CS-15 Warhawks, and finished up senior year in Starship 19 when they dissolved the old Playboy 19th.

Man, it's a small world.

As for me, I'm just a Form 0-96 kind o' guy.

Fast, neat, average, friendly, good, good.

(I think I maxed out the inside joke meter on this post :)

Shoot - I got a few of those.

But not all.

I was there at CU in '72 too. I was tear gased three times due to drift and spread. If I remember right we were kind of kickin fly boy butt on the football field. I do appologise for my fellow "students" actions at the time. I was in Navy ROTC and we stopped outdoor drilling and musters during the same period.

Ahhhh - kickin' flyboy butt! A Good Thing. Thankfully, not being a West Pointer, I can say that without inviting a backlash pointing out Army's record...

Not that Mizzou's is much better since I left (it was fine while I was there and playing - incidentally unrelated, though).
