Facing the Nation...

I don't watch the Sunday morning talk shows. One reason, blogging takes up too much time. Second reason - yesterday leaves demanded the attention I didn't give them on Saturday. Third reasons, quotes like this from Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation:

Schieffer declared that the "country is more divided than ever," and he blamed President Bush: you either love him or you hate him.

Wasn't this the case with Clinton?

No it's not Bob. It's just that your gang is out of power, so you are looking at the nation through a different lens now. Your sense of being disenfranchised, disconnected, and distrustful of the 'other guy' is simply what we conservatives learned to live with under Clinton. The big difference is you guys in the major media promote the view now in ways you didn't then - except via calumny and ridicule, by calling us "angry white guys." Anyone remember Dan Rather shaking his head is disbelief and disgust the night of the '94 midterms?

That's true of Fox, too. After all, it's not the good news, or the politics of the soft mushy middle that gets ratings. It's Cops and Capital Gang, and Survivor.

More shows I don't watch, favoring Emeril Live, re-runs of Just Shoot Me and ABC's version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The same is true here in the blogosphere. I'm a niche because, among other things (my ego says, "Don't go there John, someone might comment and hurt your feelings!") I'm a niche provider. Guns, some POD-bashing, and the tame, semi-lame stuff we share with each other like a family and my mild political rants. Nothing along the line of "I'm mad as hell, and I'm just not going to take it anymore!" here.

The Kim duToit's, Misha's, Frnak J's, with their brand of fiery invective, are dominant sites. Others, like Allah is in the House and the Politburo Diktat have great satire (you too, Frnak!) as a reason to keep going back. Glenn Reynolds is the network news of the 'Sphere. Then there are those sites like Barry at RushLimbaughtomy apparently cheats to get his status tarring the whole League of Liberals with his antics.

Me, I'm a tabloid, exploiting naked pictures of innocent guns to get my readership. Thus forcing you to wade through the other stuff to get here! Though I did recently add a button on the sidebar to take you direct - just like you guys who never bothered to read the jokes (oh, puh-leeze, the articles?) in Playboy and went straight to the centerfold instead. Of course, the difference here is that every time you got a new Playboy, there was a new centerfold. Here you get new content pretty much daily, but not always a centerfold - though I don't make you wait a month between booty shots!

Hey - tell me no tales... I know what pages get hit the most, and the p0rno video of the glock is my all time highest hit page, followed by the er, candid photography. I should put a sitemeter on that page - probably double my numbers!

Mark Kilmer at Rightsided was able to watch the whole show, and has a more detailed commentary on it.
