Interesting analysis of gaming the ecosystem.

Over at The Politburo Diktat, Der Kommissar has a post analyzing how the League of Liberals is gaming the ecosystem to bump up higher.

Sad. Can't do it with quality, so they game it. Perhaps it's not strictly cheating, really - but it's a sad window into their mindset. But it's still kinda pathetic that they are so insecure in their quality that they have to play the system.

At least Frnak was original (and worked hard, really) to generate the whole "Puppy Blender" thing with Glenn Reynolds, and Reynolds responded with amused tolerance - giving Frnak and the Alliance a sustained bump by a genuine sustained boost in readership - which they keep by quality, not quantity. They made it entertaining. This multiple sitemeter stuff is just intellectually lazy and dishonest.

I'm proud of my wandering about NZ Bear's world as a large mammal (still close to and sometimes devolving to a Marauding Marsupial) and my ever-fluctuating numeric spot on the list (currently 264 261, the Bear must be playing, that changed in the last 15 minutes, as did my link numbers - looks like he's refining his code?).

UPDATE: I see that the Bear has caught on.

At least I got there the old fashioned way - Gun P0rn and the odd Mishalanche generated thereby.

I'll just continue doing what I'm doing, and refining my voice by whatever input you guys choose to give and I find agreeable. After all, it's not like you're paying to visit!

And those who do, especially the ones who have something to say or share - thanks!

Way to go, Komrade Kommissar! While you are visiting the Diktat - go and gripe that you can't find sensitive sites like the Arsenal of Doom on the Commonwealth of the Blogosphere.

Hint to the League of Liberals - if you build it, like the Map, they will come. Because they want to, not because you tricked them into thinking you had something to say. In your way, you are as bad as you claim Bush to be - getting in on his daddy's coattails and money. Wait! I don't hear you guys knocking Ted Kennedy over that - and that fortune was based on smuggling!

UPDATE: A note from Natalie (in the comments) is intended to illuminate the LOL's cumulative innocence of the actions of a 'bad apple'.

"This was NOT perpetrated by the League of Liberals. This was perpetrated by, I believe, one member with multiple blogs. The LOLers I have talked with are as outraged as the Bear is about this. All I ask is that those who are critical cast blame fairly."

Okey Dokey Natalie. Here ya are.

Yet another UPDATE: NZ Bear (in the post referenced above) discusses the Blog Owner's response as to why he has multiple sitemeters. I admit the discussion has run past my interest in terms of technical matters. I'm just being fair here.

Absolute final Update: Say Uncle documents that he was on the case before the Kommissar! Hmmm, my excuse is, I wasn't blogging back then! but I know how ya feel, I got scooped on the M1 tank in Iraq story... but for different reasons. Well done, sir! I'm done with this one, but ya'll can feel free to comment on it!

Exactly the reaction to be expected from reactionary like John of Argghhh!!!

I figure if you can't get the "hits" honestly, what's the point?

I mean, I even wish I could figure out how to get Sitemeter to ignore Google hits (though I do find some of the searches that lead to my site amusing - I appear to be in the top ten for "howard dean sucks" [though I have never actually written such], and number one for "thomas friedman idiot" [which I have written].)

I like my google hits, if only for the humor. But they have also (based on correspondence) resulted in returning readers.

Russ,

EXACTLY. "What's the point?" It's like cheating at solitaire.

Damn! Busted AGAIN!

Natalie - no problem. Now that we know, we can be fair.

Don't be quite so touchy! You sound like a typical politician (of either stripe).

8^)
