                      SCIPIO
The most powerful ballista in New Zealand, Scipio is a replica of a Greek arrow throwing machine descended from the gastrophetés. This machine was the basis for the primary siege and maritime artillery throughout the time of Alexander the Great and the Roman Republic and Empire. Scipio features the lateral ratchet of earlier machines and period style arrows. Scipio has a range of over 160 meters but has not been fully tested yet.
                       KATIE
Although there are larger “trebuchets” about Katie is the largest historically accurate machine of its type in New Zealand. Katie is built using dowel and wedge methods with modern fittings only being used to enable mobility.
Katie is capable of throwing steel balls over 100 meters but has not been fully tested yet.
                TINY
This small trebuchet is the workhorse of the maths module of the Educational Activites. Tiny is a fully functional catapult that delivers accurate results that provides useable data for the students. An revised plan for Tiny is available as free dowload on the Plans page for anyone wishing to try their hand at catapult construction.
      CHUCKY
This is a 1/2 scale Roman Manganol or “Onager” with a single throwing arm driven by a twisted rope skein. Chucky is able to throw croquet balls over 100 meters.

This machine is a seasoned verteran of many events and displays with a history of dropping kinghts that is second to none.
        SIR RODNEY
This is a speculative machine based on period munscripts and descriptions of wheeled trebuchets. Although the existence of such machines remains controversial and debated they have a superior performance and a good study for those interested in physics.
